DO YOU HAVE PAYMENT PLANS? DISCOUNTS?

Yes! Typically clients pay a retainer fee (amount varies) and then the remainder is split into payments leading up to the birth. Desert Star Midwifery offers the following discounts- •Sliding Scale prices are available for clients showing financial need (those eligible to receive WIC, food stamps, TAFDC, SSI, Medicaid, Housing Assistances, and/or other programs not listed here. Current students may also qualify for a discount). Qualifying factors are determined on a case-by-case basis. •Hiring a Doula- clients that hire a labor/delivery doula are eligible to receive a discount of $250.00 •Attending Birth Education Classes- clients that show proof of completing 6 hours of Birth Education classes are eligible to receive a discount of $150.00 •Payment in full at time of registration- Clients that pay the entire balance when this contract is submitted or within the first 2 appointments (both appointments before 36 weeks) may receive a discount of $150.00 •Military, First-Responders, and Healthcare workers- A “thank you for your service” discount of $150.00

IS HOMEBIRTH DANGEROUS?

For low-risk clients (those without medical problems such as high blood pressure, some blood disorders, type-1 diabetes, etc.), homebirth has been shown to be at the same level of risk as birthing inside a hospital. We can discuss risk factors and homebirth safety with you during your free initial consultation.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MIDWIFE AND A DOULA?

A doula provides comfort techniques, birth education, and hands-on support throughout the labor process or in the postpartum period. A midwife is a care provider who monitors the pregnancy and birth process and assesses whether or not interventions are needed. Depending on the intervention, a midwife may provide these services themselves or may determine transfer of care (to a nurse-midwife/OBGYN/ or hospital provider) is the best option. A doula provides emotional support, while a midwife is a type of trained health care provider authorized to provide services such as taking vitals, ordering lab work and ultrasounds, and providing emergency care with the use of medications or emergency equipement.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Desert Star Midwifery does not accept insurance payments at this time. Clients may file their own claims with the insurance and we can provide the requested paperwork from the insurance if needed. Desert Star Midwifery knows that cost is important however and we provide sliding scale costs as well as discounts. Reach out today for a free initial consultation and we can discuss all the options with you.
